We have to be honest.
We absolutely geeked out for the “Turn-back-the-clock” uniforms worn by the Twins Thursday night at Target Field in their 8-6 win over the Brewers.
The duds were replica 1948 St. Paul Saints uniforms, the American Association team that used to play at old Lexington Park on University Avenue.
St. Paul’s Joe Mauer was definitely a fan, telling the Twins official web site that he wishes “it was for more than one day.”
(So do we. How about this weekend promotion next year: 1970s Powder blue Twins uniforms on a Friday, Minneapolis Millers uniforms for the Saturday game and St. Paul Saints on Sunday?)
“I grew up on Lexington Parkway just like five minutes from the stadium, so it’s pretty cool for me and my family,” Mauer said. “I remember my grandpa talking about the ballpark and things like that, so it’s pretty special.”
The Twins wore road grays for one reason, according to UniWatch.com, so Mauer could be seen with “St. Paul” across his chest. Works for us.
