Vance Worley’s first spring training with the Twins is not going well. The right-hander allowed three runs on six hits in four innings in Sunday’s 7-1 loss to the Orioles.
FOX Sports North reports that Worley has allowed 19 hits in 12 innings this spring. His earned run average is an atrocious 6.00. He’s one of the candidates to start opening day.
Scott Diamond probably would have been the opening day starter if not for offseason elbow surgery. The left-hander is scheduled to make his spring debut on Monday. The Pioneer Press reports that Diamond will throw 30 pitches against Class A minor league players.
Twins prospect Deolis Guerra underwent successful surgery to a remove a rib on Friday. General manager Terry Ryan hopes Guerra will be ready to pitch again in July.
