The Twins dropped a Grapefruit League game to the Tampa Bay Rays, 7-2 on Sunday.
Last year’s American League Cy Young winner David Price cruised through three one-hit innings for the Rays. He had five strikeouts.
Mike Pelfrey made his second start of the spring for Minnesota. The 6-foot-7 right-hander pitched three scoreless innings, allowing one hit and a walk.
Pelfrey credited his strong start to a slight change in his mechanics, which was suggested by pitching coach Rick Anderson and manager Ron Gardenhire. Pelfrey’s way of saying ‘thanks’ came after the game when he left a $100 bill on Gardenhire’s desk with a note that read, “Sorry about the two-out walk.”
