While Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said today that the starting quarterback for this week’s game in Seattle is undecided, it definitely looks like Christian Ponder is the odds on favorite to make the start.
ESPN’s Ben Goessling reports that Ponder took the first-team repetitions during the individual portion of practice the media was allowed to watch on Wednesday. Per the report, Ponder threw the ball well and his left shoulder, which he dislocated six days ago against Washington, didn’t seem to cause any limitations.
“We’ll make a decision as the week goes on at that position,” Frazier said during his press conference on Wednesday.
Frazier went on to say that “there’s a chance” Josh Freeman could start if Ponder isn’t deemed healthy enough to play. Freeman hasn’t played since setting the bar extremely low in his debut with the Vikings last month against the Giants.
“He’s working hard, doing everything he can in practice and in meetings to continue to improve and put himself in a position to at some point, to help our team,” Frazier said, via ProFootballTalk. “But yeah, we’re pleased with his work ethic and the way he’s progressing.”
Freeman told the Star Tribune that Ponder “probably” took the most first-team reps in practice today.
“I’m not exactly sure who took the most. Christian probably got the majority [of first-team reps],” he said. “Glad to see he’s feeling better. I’m just continuing to whatever they give me, gobble it up and try to be as efficient as possible.”
