Miguel Sano may have led the Minnesota Twins back into contention for a wild card spot in the American League, but his efforts in a half season weren’t enough to garner him American League Rookie of the Year honors.
Sano came in third in the voting for the award, which went to Houston Astros shortstop Carlos Correa Monday. Cleveland shortstop Francisco Lindor finished second.
Correa received 17 first-place votes and 13 second-place votes for a total of 124 points, besting Lindor’s 109.

Sano finished in a distant third with just 20 points, all on third-place votes. He hit .269 with 18 home runs, 17 doubles and 52 RBIs in 80 games as a designated hitter and third baseman for the Twins.
Correa had an outstanding season for Houston. He hit .279 with 22 homers, 22 doubles and 68 RBIs in 99 games for the Astros. He also scored 52 runs and swiped 14 bases.
Yahoo Sports notes one other big advantage that both Correa and Lindor had over Sano was that they played one of the toughest positions on the field – while Sano spent most of his time in the Twins lineup as a designated hitter.
Sano’s teammate and fellow rookie Eddie Rosario also received two third place votes to finish sixth in the American League voting.
