Michael Jordan made a lot of money in his NBA career. Jerome Simpson hasn’t made nearly as much money in his NFL career, and it’s safe to say he’ll never touch the golden level of His Airness.
Why are we comparing MJ to Simpson? Because Vikings wide receivers coach George Stewart did just that when talking about Simpson with the Star Tribune.
“It’s hard taking Jerome out of the offense,” Stewart said. “It’s kind of like Michael Jordan shooting threes and then deciding to bring in the backup guard.”
I’m a little stunned by the analogy considering Simpson is only owned in like two-percent of fantasy football leagues and Jordan is the best basketball player of all-time. Either way, Stewart was trying to make a point.
The point Simpson is trying to make this season is that he deserves a long-term contract extension.
“I just want to stay consistent this whole year so I can get a big contract, a long-term contract and stay here,” Simpson told 1500 ESPN.
He’s off to a good start with a seven reception, 140 yard performance in week one against the Lions.
