The silence around Flip Saunders’ absence from the Minnesota Timberwolves has created growing speculation about how the team’s president and coach is faring in his battle with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
When Saunders’ diagnosis was first announced, the Wolves suggested Saunders would not miss much time from work. A team statement quoted Saunders’ doctors saying his condition was very treatable and curable.
But word came last month that Saunders was hospitalized and he stepped away from the team to focus on his health. In Saunders’ absence, Sam Mitchell was named interim head coach.
Since then Pro Basketball Talk notes there haven’t been many medical updates on Flip, as his family has asked for privacy.
According to NBA Blogger Steve Aschburner, the Wolves will give Saunders and his family as much time and privacy as they need.
