A flurry of four goals in the first period lifted the Wild to a 6-4 victory over the Colorado Avalanche Saturday at Denver’s Pepsi Center, the Pioneer Press reports.
The Wild’s Ryan Suter scored first with a power-play goal 4:16 into the game, followed by goals by Devin Setoguchi at 6:00 and Cal Clutterbuck at 9:04. Colorado’s John Mitchell narrowed the gap to 3-1 at 14:11, but Kyle Brodziak expanded the lead to 4-1 for the Wild with a goal at 17:18.
Colorado stormed back in the second period with goals by P.A. Parenteau and Gabriel Landeskog to make it 4-3, but Pierre-Marc Bouchard’s goal at 12:02 gave Minnesota a 5-3 as the teams headed into the third.
Setoguchi scored his second goal of the game at 10:22 to put the Wild up 6-3, and Colorado flirted with a comeback as Chuck Kobasew scored for the team at 18:07.
The Wild next take on the Canucks at Vancouver Monday night.
