Minnesota had Oregon State on the ropes Saturday night but couldn’t hold on for the win.
The Gophers, down 1-0 in the best-of-three Super Regional series, were leading Oregon State 3-2 after seven innings but surrendered four runs over the final two innings for a 6-3 season-ending loss.
“We made some good pitches, but we were just unfortunate. That’s baseball sometimes,” said Gophers coach John Anderson. “You don’t always get the results you deserve. It was a well-played game. I’m really proud of our guys for competing all year long.”
Minnesota finishes the season with 44 victories, the third-most in program history, and went further than they had since the 1977 team that advanced to the College World Series.

Trevor Larnach, the first-round draft pick of the Twins, reached based his first four trips to the plate, including a critical walk to lead off the eighth for the Beavers, from which he eventually came around to score the tying run.
In the ninth, back-to-back hits and a walk loaded the bases for Oregon State, but Larnach struck out swinging to keep the bases loaded.
But with two outs, reliever Jackson Rose gave up the go-ahead two-run single and then hit two straight batters, and just like that the Beavers had a 6-3 lead.
Larnach hit a homer and doubled in the first game of the series.
Minnesota graduates six seniors but should be very good again next season.
