Forget about the Minnesota Twins reuniting with Johan Santana.
According to multiple reports, the 34-year-old Santana has signed a minor league deal with the Baltimore Orioles. CBS Sports reports it’s a one-year deal worth $3 million.
The left-hander has missed the majority of the past two seasons with shoulder injuries. He underwent surgery last April to repair a torn capsule in his throwing shoulder. Prior to that Tommy John surgery wiped out his entire 2011 season.
Santana was still able to throw the first perfect game in Mets’ history in 2012.
The Twins were one of seven teams that watched Santana throw a bullpen session in Florida two weeks ago. A New York Post report said Santana’s velocity was way down, sitting near 77-78 miles per hour while topping out at 81 – a far cry from when he was firing mid-90s fastballs during his time with the Twins and Mets.
He was the best pitcher in baseball from 2004-2006 with the Twins. He won American League Cy Young Awards in 2004 and 2006 while finishing third in the Cy Young vote in 2005.
