The leg injury that kept Twins third baseman Miguel Sano out for the last month and a half of the regular season will require surgery later this month.
The operation will take place in New York on Nov. 13, the Twins announced Thursday.
Sano will have a titanium rod into his left leg and keep him away from baseball for 6-8 weeks, according to MLB.com’s Rhett Bollinger, who cited information from Twins general manager Thad LeVine.

Sano was initially injured when he fouled a ball off his left shin in a game against the Diamondbacks on Aug. 19. He missed the ensuing 38 games before returning in the final regular season series against Detroit, but he was left off the roster for the wild-card game against the Yankees.
Sano hit .264 with 28 homers and 77 RBI in just 114 games. He also struck out 178 times.
