Miguel Sano’s torrid start to the season continued Friday night as the Twins (11-11) rallied to beat the Royals (7-15) 6-4 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.
Trailing 3-0 in the fourth, Sano launched a two-run homer to the opposite field – his sixth of the season.
The Royals made it a 4-2 game on a Brandon Moss homer in the seventh but the Twins came back in the eight with four runs on back-to-back two-run doubles by Sano and Joe Mauer.
Sano’s double missed being a grand slam by inches. The ball hit the top of the wall and bounced back into play. Twins radio announcer Corey Provus thought it was a grand slam before the umpires ruled it a double. Sano is 8-for-12 in his last three games with two homers, one double and six RBI.
According to ESPN’s quick facts, Sano is 7th in AL in HR (6), 2nd in AL in RBI (20), 8th in AL in R (16), 1st in AL in BB (18), 5th in AL in SLG (.649), 2nd in AL in OPS (1.083).
The only player in the AL with more RBI than Sano is Albert Pujols with 21.
