Kudos to Bob Sansevere of the Pioneer Press for a very revealing interview with Samantha Ponder.
Samantha pretty much opened the front door to her marriage with Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder. Read the full Q&A right here. Check out a few samples below.
What do you and Christian do for fun? “We like being on the lake. That was definitely fun. To be honest, we haven’t had a lot of time for that. We’re simple. We go on bike rides. Last (Sunday) night, we played a pretty long game of Nerf basketball. We just moved into a new place, and that was the first thing we did — we put up a Nerf hoop. We run together sometimes. Our lives are so hectic that when we do get time together, which is rare, we like to relax.”
How did Christian propose? “He picked me up from the airport. I was coming in for just a few hours. He took me back to his house. This was the first week in December. I noticed there were some lights outside. I was like: “Oh, cool. You put Christmas lights outside.” He was like, “You should go look at it.” It was December in Minnesota, and I’m from Phoenix. I’m like: “Dude, I’m not going outside. I don’t want to look at your lights. It’s freezing.” He said, “You should go look.” I said, “No, I’m good.” He’s like, “Seriously, you should go look.” I was arguing with him. I’m like: “No. Don’t tell me what to do. I’ll look at the lights in the morning.” I was being the brat that I am. Then it clicked in my head. So I walked outside, and I look over to the balcony area and he put “Marry Me” in Christmas lights into the ground. He didn’t put a question mark. It was more of a command, like “Marry Me!” I don’t know if I had an option. I turned around, and he was on his knee and asked me. I don’t even remember what he said. It was all kind of a blur. We decided to get married two weeks later.”
On working with Christian on the red carpet before the ESPYs: “That was awesome. It was an opportunity for me to prove to him this is not as easy as you think. I think everybody who watches people on TV, especially when it’s about sports, says, “Oh, how hard can it be?” It’s certainly not rocket science, but I think it’s a lot harder than it looks. Halfway through the show, Christian was like, “Oh, my God, there’s somebody talking in my ear while I’m trying to talk.” That’s the way it works. I think he has a little more appreciation now.”
