If the Minnesota Wild are going to make a run in the playoffs, they’re going to have to do it without their top defenseman.
The team announced Monday that Ryan Suter will undergo surgery to repair a broken ankle and will miss the remainder of the season.

Initial fears, according to The Athletic’s Michael Russo, were that Suter suffered a broken fibula in his right leg when he slammed awkwardly into the boards during Saturday’s game in Dallas.
With Suter out for the rest of the season and Jared Spurgeon still out with a groin tear, the Wild’s top defensive pairing going forward will be Matt Dumba and Jonas Brodin, according to Russo.
If the season ended today the Wild would meet the Winnipeg Jets in the first round of the playoffs.
