This one didn’t slip south of the border until 1500 ESPN picked up the story on Thursday, but it appears there’s a pretty good chance Timberwolves star rookie Andrew Wiggins will be part of the NBA All-Star Weekend.
Let’s backtrack to the original report, which came from Hoops Hype Canada on Tuesday. Wiggins, a native of Vaughn, Ontario, will be competing in the Slam Dunk Competition, according to his father, Mitchell Wiggins.

1500 ESPN points out a slight error in the original report. The dunk contest will be held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn – home of Kevin Garnett and the Nets – on Febraury 14. The actual All-Star Game will be played February 15 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
There’s also a good chance Wiggins will be on the Rookie Team for the Sophomore-Rookie game.
The field for the dunk contest has not been announced. Fellow Wolves rookie Zach LaVine has also been rumored as a potential dunk contestant. Wiggins, for sure though, can throw it down with the best of them. James Harden of the Rockets got a first-hand look at Wiggins’ ability in a game earlier this season.
