Ricky Rubio had a brutal start to the Olympics as he finished the game on the bench in Spain’s 72-70 loss to Croatia on Sunday.
Rubio played just 12 minutes and finished with 0 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist and 2 steals.
More on the game from NBA.com Hang Time blog.
The Wolves’ Ricky Rubio was on the bench for most of the fourth quarter, as the Sixers’ Sergio Rodriguez and Rockets’ draft-stash Sergio Llull finished the game in the backcourt. But both of those guys had costly turnovers down the stretch, with Rodriguez also missing two important 3-point attempts when Gasol was double-teamed in the post.
Rubio and Spain were ranked second going into the Olympics and they can redeem themselves with three more games in Group B preliminary play. Next up is a game against Brazil on Tuesday.
EDIT: Early we had a photo of Wilt Chamberlain that we mistakenly thought included Rubio’s face photoshopped on it. We were wrong so we removed the photo. Nonetheless, somebody should make that photo because it’d be really funny.
Here’s the photo of not Rubio.
