Memphis Grizzlies 90
Minnesota Timberwolves 68
Ricky Rubio returned to the Timberwolves’ lineup Sunday night after sitting out the first four preseason games, but was held scoreless as the Wolves fell to the Grizzlies 90-68 in Memphis Sunday night.
Rubio played 23 minutes in the first three quarters but sat out the last period. Although he didn’t put any points on the board, he did have three rebounds, four assists and a steal, according to NBA.com.
The Wolves were led by Gorgui Dieng with 12 points, and Shabazz Muhammad with nine.
Kevin Garnett, Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins each scored eight points.
The game was relatively close early on, with the Wolves up by five points early in the second quarter. But the Grizzlies went on a 29-9 run to take the lead and never looked back, the Star Tribune reports.
The paper notes that interim head coach Sam Mitchell played several reserve players in the second half to evaluate them before the regular season opens in 10 days.
The Timberwolves (1-4) face the Milwaukee Bucks Tuesday night in Madison, Wisconsin.
