Twins star rookie Royce Lewis said he experienced “shooting pain” Tuesday which led to the Twins pulling Lewis from the 7-0 win.
Lewis has been listed day-to-day after tweaking his hamstring in an eighth-inning at-bat in the Twins’ Tuesday win over Cincinnati. The 24-year-old infielder grimaced in pain and was visibly frustrated walking off the field.
“It just happened on the swing,” Lewis told media Thursday, per The Athletic’s Dan Hayes. “Man, just shooting pain so that was it.”
The Twins star underwent an MRI to determine the extent of the injury, but is still considered day-to-day.
Lewis looked to have been running gingerly in his sixth-inning at-bat but Lewis claimed he was just trying to be “smart” on the play.
“That was just me trying to be smart because I know it is September. I was out. They made a good play,” said Lewis.
Minnesota have a nine-game lead in the AL Central with nine games left to play. The Twins host the Angels for a three-game weekend series starting Friday at Target Field.
