Royce Lewis has been activated from the injured list and is expected to be in the lineup when the Twins host the Tigers at Target Field Tuesday night.
Lewis, out since suffering a strained oblique while running to first base in Minnesota’s July 1 game against the Orioles, went 5-for-12 with a pair of homers and three walks in four rehab games at Triple-A St. Paul Aug. 8-13.
Lewis was slashing .326/.354/.474 (.827 OPS) with four homers and 15 RBI in 26 games before he suffered the injury. His season at the big-league level didn’t begin until May 29 after exactly one year of recovery from a second torn ACL in the span of 15 months.
The 24-year-old was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 MLB Draft.
To make room for Lewis on the active roster, the Twins placed utility infielder Willi Castro on the 10-day injured list because of a mile left strained oblique.
