The last remaining Minnesota tie to the Philadelphia 76ers is no longer with the NBA club, as former Gopher Rodney Williams, who has been battling a hamstring injury and appeared in just two preseason games for Philly, was one of the final cuts as they got below the NBA regular season maximum of 15 players.
Williams will remain in the organization, playing for the Delaware 87ers of the NBA’s Developmental League.
Former Hopkins standout and one time Gopher recruit Royce White was cut by Philadelphia last week, and Williams’ Gopher teammate Trevor Mbakwe also spent time with Philadelphia before singing a contract to play in Europe.
When we said the 76ers were getting below the league max of 15 players, we really did mean below. Philly will run with 14 after cutting Williams and Gani Lawal, who were believed to be in competition for the final roster spot in the City of Brotherly Love.
