The hug Vikings wide receiver Greg Jennings and Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers shared following Green Bay’s 44-31 win over Minnesota on Sunday night didn’t mean anything to Rodgers. The proof lies within the interview Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon had with Rodgers on ESPN’s “Pardon The Interruption” on Tuesday.
Kornheiser: “It seemed to last forever and ever and ever. Was it as awkward for you as it appeared to be on camera?”
Rodgers: “It was a long hug, for sure. It was a prolonged one, yes…. It seemed a little bit longer with all the cameras around. But, you know, it was two competitors after the game, words were said, and then we went our separate ways.”
Wilbon: “It seems to me 99.9 percent of the time you let these [post-game hugs] roll right off your back and they mean nothing. Did this one mean anything at the time?
Rodgers: “This one would probably fit in the 99.9% that you’re talking about. Every now and then one comes along that might mean a little something to you. Not this one.”
Meanwhile, Jennings has gone from catching passes from former MVP’s in Rodgers and Brett Favre to three players in Minnesota — Christian Ponder, Matt Cassel, and Josh Freeman — that can’t seem to hold down the starting job for more than a week.
“It’s been very difficult, obviously,” Jennings told the Pioneer Press. “It’s been an adjustment to make every week. But it is what it is. You’ve got to roll with the punches.”
Jennings had just one reception for nine yards in Minnesota’s 44-31 loss to the Packers on Sunday night.
Vikings coach Leslie Frazier could name this week’s starting QB on Wednesday. He has already narrowed it down to Christian Ponder or Josh Freeman.
“Everything takes time, everything is a process,” said Jennings about his chemistry with a new team and quarterbacks, via the Star Tribune. “Nothing just comes like that. We’ll see, maybe this latter half of the year is our time, maybe not. We’re going to continue to work to win games, to be successful on the football field and give our fans something to cheer for.”
