Eric Decker is the one of the best wide receivers in the National Football League, and he’s a local hero in Minnesota.
Decker graduated from Rocori High School in Cold Spring, Minnesota in 2005. He went on to star as a football and baseball player at the University of Minnesota. Better known for his football skills, Decker was selected by the Denver Broncos in the third-round of the 2010 NFL Draft.
He’s now just days away from playing in the Super Bowl against the Seattle Seahawks.
Rocori High School is celebrating Decker’s chance to win a championship by decorating their school in Bronco orange and calling Thursday “Eric Decker Day.” The school will cap the festivities with a pep rally and highlight reel of Decker’s high school highlights.
“With the platform as a professional athlete that I’m on, my mindset is try to give back and just tell the younger kids that I’m a small town kid with people who thought [there ‘s] no hope of making it to where I am, and I had big dreams, and I wasn’t going to let anyone get in the way of that,” Decker said, FOX 9.
Decker is more than a football player. He’s also a star of the reality show “Eric and Jessie” on E!. His wife is country music performer Jessie James. EOnline.com got ahold of a Rocori High School yearbook and posted high school photos of Decker.
“It’s going to be ‘Eric Decker Day’ throughout our school district, and we’re selling t-shirts for those who need them, although on a normal day, we already have a ton of Eric Decker No. 87 jerseys passing through our halls,” Rocori activities director Joel Baumgarten told the St. Cloud Times.
“It’s just a way for us to show our support for Eric and to accommodate the number of requests we’ve gotten from members of the media as well.”
