The Houston Rockets had too much firepower as they beat up on the Timberwolves 113-101 Wednesday night in Mexico City.
Houston was red hot from behind the arc – draining 13 three-pointers. The Rockets have hit at least 10 three-pointers in all eight games this season, setting a new NBA record.
Dwight Howard had a big night for Houston. He posted the double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds. James Harden added his first double-double of the season with 23 points and 10 assists. Trevor Ariza chipped in with 19 points for Houston.
Wolves rookie Andrew Wiggins was effective before getting into foul trouble; he had 15 points. Corey Brewer had one of his best games of the season with 18 points in the loss and Kevin Martin added 12.
It was a rough night inside for the Wolves. Nikola Pekovic had a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds, but he had to work for it. Pekovic was just 4-of-10 shooting. Thaddeus Young had a tougher go, scoring just six points on 2-of-10 from the floor.
The game was tight through the first half as the Wolves trailed 53-49 at the break, but everything changed in the third quarter as Houston outscored the Wolves 31-21 during the frame.
The turning point came when Wiggins picked up his fourth personal foul with the Wolves trailing 68-64. Everything changed after that as the Rockets pushed the lead to 14.
In the end, the 113 points by the Rockets was a season high.
The Wolves (2-4) continue their road trip on Friday at New Orleans.
