The 12th-ranked Golden Gophers look to bust a two-game losing streak tonight at Northwestern.
Minnesota won its first three Big 10 games and soared to 8th in the national rankings, but losses against Indiana and Michigan knocked Tubby Smith’s crew out of the Top 10.
Slow starts and sloppy play killed Minnesota against the Hoosiers and Wolverines. The Wildcats aren’t as talented as those two clubs, but winning on the road in the Big 10 is traditionally tough. More of the same in Evanston tonight, and Minnesota risks losing three straight.
Coach Tubby Smith is pointing to guard Austin Hollins to help get the train back on track, calling him “the hardest worker in our program.”
Earlier this month, Hollins scored 19 points in a 69-51 win over Northwestern at Williams Arena.
