Louisville coach Rick Pitino says his son, Richard, is “more than ready” to coach at the University of Minnesota, even though he’s spent just a year as head coach at Florida International University.
The elder Pitino, at the Final Four in Atlanta, heaped praise on his son for the job he did at FIU.
“What he did this year at Florida International, I never thought anybody could do,” Pitino said. “He took walk-ons, eight new players, he turned around the bad academic situation and won 18 games and was a bucket away from going to the NCAA in his first year.”
The U of M will hold a news conference at 9 a.m. at Williams Arena Friday to introduce Richard Pitino to the media. The public is invited to attend.
