LANDOVER, Md. — Robert Griffin III ran for two touchdowns and passed for another as the Washington Redskins rolled to a 38-26 win over the Vikings Sunday at FedEx Field.
Griffin set a Redskins record for a quarterback by rushing for 138 yards, including a back-breaking 76-yard touchdown run with 2:43 left in the fourth quarter.
“There aren’t a lot of guys who play that position that can break a 76-yard run and not get caught,” Vikings coach Leslie Frazer said of Griffin. “He’s a very good player.”

Washington also scored 14 points off of a pair of Minnesota turnovers. The first was a Griffin to Darrel Young pass from six yards out after a second-quarter Christian Ponder fumble. In the fourth quarter, ex-Viking Madieu Williams intercepted Ponder and returned it for a 24-yard touchdown.
“The ball kind of slipped out of my hands,” Ponder said of the Williams interception. “It sailed.”

After Williams scored, the Vikings rallied for two touchdowns. Ponder hit Michael Jenkins and Kyle Rudolph on a pair of TD passes to get Minnesota within five points of the lead, but Griffin’s scamper iced the game for Washington, which ended an eight-game home losing streak.
Minnesota managed to move the ball into the Redskins’ red zone on their first three possessions, but failed to score a touchdown.
“It kind of bit us in the butt,” Ponder said.
Blair Walsh kicked three field goals, however, and the Vikings got off to a 9-0 lead.
Washington got on the board early in the second quarter when Kai Forbath — on his first kick in the NFL — hit a 50-yard field goal to make it 9-3 at the time. From there, Washington scored 21 unanswered points to take control of the game.
The Vikings, now 4-2 on the year, failed to take sole possession of the NFC North. They’re now a half-game out of the lead, behind first place Chicago, who had a bye this week.
