Vikings kicker Kai Forbath did a stand up job for the team in 2016 after Blair Walsh couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn.
Walsh missed four extra points and four field goal attempts in 2016, before being cut mid season. Forbath filled in nicely making all of his field goals but he did miss three extra points.
Although Forbath looked more comfortable, he had a career average of just 84 percent before signing with Minnesota. So clearly the Vikings want to make sure they have the right guy for next season.
According to Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times, the Vikings will be working out the NCAA’s top kicker in Zane Gonzalez on Monday, March 13.
Gonzalez made 92 percent of his kicks during senior season at Arizona State, including 7 of 9 from 50+ yards. He is also the record holder for most field goals and points in FBS history.
USA Today notes that Gonzalez may be the best kicker to ever play college football.
