Numerous media reports have former Tampa Bay Buccaneers Quarterback Josh Freeman choosing the Minnesota Vikings as his next team, with the free-agent QB allegedly deciding on his next destination tonight.
Multiple outlets have Freeman considering the Vikings, 49ers, and Bills as possible landing spots, while Sports Illustrated reports that Oakland is also pursuing the five-year pro, and would offer him the starting job should he head west.
The Sporting News reports that San Francisco is pursuing Freeman the hardest, but they’re the only team of the four that would likely not give Freeman at least a chance at the starting job, with up-and-coming star Colin Kaepernick manning the helm for the 49ers’ offense.
Upwards of 10 teams reportedly contacted Freeman when he was released by Tampa Bay Friday, and CBS Sports contradicts Sporting News’ report of the 49ers pushing the hardest for him, saying the Vikings have gone after Freeman the most after his release.
Minnesota was on a bye this week and Leslie Frazier has previously said he knows who will be the starter for The Purple next week against Carolina, but will not reveal who it will be.
Should they sign Freeman, it would throw another option in the mix, and show the Vikings lack of trust and belief in Christian Ponder, as well as Matt Cassel, who guided Minnesota to a win in London last Sunday.
