When it rains it pours for Minnesota Twins right-hander Phil Hughes. He will have a lot of healing to do before next season.
According to multiple reports, Minnesota Twins GM Terry Ryan announced that Hughes needs season-ending surgery on his shoulder.

Hughes was already on the disabled list because of a femoral fracture above his kneecap after he was hit by a line drive. There had been no timetable set for a return from that injury, but according to the Pioneer Press’ Mike Berardino, the Twins expect Hughes to be ready for spring training.
Hughes, 30, is set to undergo surgery in the Twin Cities on July 6.
It puts an end to a second consecutive disappointing season for Hughes. It’s not clear how long Hughes had been dealing with the injury, but he has been battling a noticeable drop in his fastball velocity in each of the last two seasons.
According to MLBTradeRumors.com, in 2014 when Hughes was 16-10 and set a Major League record with an 11.63 K/BB ratio his fastball was averaging better than 92 mph. Since then that average velocity had dipped to 90.6 mph, while he’s posted a 4.83 ERA in 214.1 innings since.
Hughes still has three seasons remaining on the contract he signed with the Twins following the 2014 season.
