Multiple media reports in Texas indicate that Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson’s probation has ended, more than a year early.
Peterson has been on probation since November, stemming from allegations of child abuse involving his young son in Texas.
Peterson pleaded no contest in November to a reduced charge of reckless assault after he was accused of hitting the boy with a wooden switch and causing visible injuries. Peterson was fined, given probation and community service.
According to KPRC 2 in Houston, the judge signed an order to end Peterson’s probation early because both the judge and probation officer in the case believe Peterson has fulfilled all the requirements.

Peterson missed the last 15 games of last season after he was placed on the Commissioner’s Exempt List and suspended by the league after pleading guilty.
ABC 13 in Houston notes the case revived a debate about corporal punishment, which is declining, but still being used in homes and schools around the United States.
The boy suffered cuts and bruising to his thighs, back and buttocks, from the incident.
At the time, Peterson said he never intended to harm his son and was disciplining him the same way he had been as a child growing up in East Texas.
Peterson’s suspension from the league has ended, though the legal battle over it continues. He has returned to the Vikings and is in training camp with the team in Mankato.
