Former Timberwolves point guard Andre Miller has signed with the San Antonio Spurs, according to reports from Yahoo Sports and the Star Tribune. The team announced that they had waived the guard in a press release earlier today.
The Timberwolves announced earlier this week that they had planned to buy out Miller’s contract in order for the player to sign with a team in title contention.
According to Basketball Reference, Miller, knicknamed “The Professor” for his crafty, methodical play style, has career averages of 12.6 points and 6.6 assists per game and ranks 9th on the NBA’s list of all-time assist leaders.
Buying out Miller leaves the Timberwolves with an open roster spot, according to the Star Tribune, and Wolves beat reporter Jerry Zgoda expects the team to use that roster spot to add a player to their frontcourt rotation, after sustaining injuries to forwards Nikola Pekovic, Nemanja Bjelica, and Kevin Garnett.
