Former Gophers quarterback Demry Croft has been charged with six felony counts of rape and two counts of sexual battery in Tennessee, according to multiple reports.
Croft, who transferred from the University of Minnesota after the 2017 season, played for Tennessee State University in 2018 and is still listed on the team’s roster.
According to Davidson County Sheriff’s Office jail records, Croft was booked into jail Monday at 2:04 p.m. and released the same day at 6:18 p.m.
The Tennessean reports that Croft is accused of the crimes stemming from a Dec. 1, 2018 incident, and that he was indicted by a grand jury in a process that could take months.
WMSV reports that it obtained grand jury indictments that say Croft “intentionally engaged in unlawful sexual contact” and “unlawful sexual penetration” without a victim’s consent.
Croft, 22, played nine games in 2017 for the Gophers, passing for 674 yards, four touchdowns and seven interceptions, while completing just 41.5 percent of his pass attempts.
Last season, Croft completed 61-of-101 passes for 888 yards, eight touchdowns and two interceptions.
