The 2-year-old boy who Adrian Peterson’s father identified as a grandson has died in Sioux Falls.
The Pioneer Press Friday reported that Nelson Peterson, Adrian Peterson’s father, said the boy was Adrian Peterson’s son, although not Adrian Peterson, Jr.
Sioux Falls police are not identifying the boy at the family’s request, according to a report in the Star Tribune. Nelson Peterson also told the Star Tribune that the boy is Adrian Peterson’s son.
KSFY TV in Sioux Falls reports that the boy died from injuries suffered during an assault on Wednesday night. Sioux Falls Police say they responded to an emergency call at an apartment in Sioux Falls, when they arrived they found a child not breathing.
At the time of the incident the child was being watched by 27-year-old Joseph Robert Patterson, who was dating the boy’s mother, the Sioux Falls Argus Leader reports.
According to police, no one else was home at the time of the incident. Patterson is held on $750,000 bond, currently charged in South Dakota’s Lincoln County with aggravated assault and aggravated battery of an infant. The Lincoln County Attorney’s office is reviewing police reports for consideration of additional charges.
While at the hospital, police learned the boy had injuries consistent with abuse.
Speaking with the media following practice on Friday, Peterson declined to say why he was in South Dakota away from the team on Thursday. During that meeting with the media, Peterson vowed to play on Sunday.
God Bless everyone and thank u so much.
