The chatter about a possible trade of Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Russell Westbrook is definitely heating up this week. Multiple media reports this week indicate that a potential frontrunner has emerged.
It’s not the Timberwolves – it’s Boston.
The Wolves have been mentioned as a possible suitor for Westbrook and scenarios have included a combination of Ricky Rubio, Zach LaVine, Gorgui Dieng and even first round pick Kris Dunn.
But the Celtics and even the Los Angeles Lakers have been viewed as more serious contenders to work out a potential Westbrook deal.
NBC Sports says a deal that would send Westbrook to Boston makes a ton of sense.
“They’re trying to challenge LeBron James and the Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference, and Al Horford puts Boston in second place. Westbrook could make the Celtics a legitimate threat.
Boston also has a deep and talented roster and a treasure trove of draft picks, including control of the Nets’ first-round pick the next two years.”
While a report last week said Oklahoma City may not deal Westbrook at all, the Bleacher Report’s Howard Beck reports that after talking to rival GMs that a Westbrook deal may happen sooner instead of later.

Most around the league believe Westbrook will be in a new home next season, but it likely isn’t going to be in Minnesota.
