The New York Yankees are a team to watch as the Twins near the July 31 MLB trade deadline.
According to Jon Heyman of Fancred, the Yankees have talked to the Twins about trading for veteran right-handed starting pitcher Ervin Santana, in addition to having discussed Kyle Gibson, Jake Odorizzi and Lance Lynn.

Santana made his 2018 debut on Wednesday against the Blue Jays. His fastball averaged just over 89 mph, which is 2-3 mph slower than what he averaged with the Twins during his All-Star 2017 season.
Santana was expected to be the ace of the staff again this season but those plans were derailed by February finger surgery. The Twins could choose to keep him and pay him a $14 million club option next season.
Gibson, who is arbitration eligible next season, was also linked to the Brewers earlier this week by MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, who has also reported Milwaukee’s interest in Brian Dozier and Eduardo Escobar.

MLB Trade Rumors makes a good point by saying adding Gibson to a trade involving Dozier or Escobar would increase the return because he’s under team control beyond this season, whereas Dozier and Escobar are essentially rental players.
