It looks like the NHL will finally award Minnesota an outdoor hockey game, but it may not be the game the Wild had been hoping for.
TSN’s Bob McKenzie reported Wednesday the NHL will likely announce that Minnesota and Colorado will host Stadium Series outdoor games next season.
As I just said on @NBCSN pre-game show, expectation is NHL will announce this weekend outdoor games next season for COL and MIN.

MIN's opponent expected to be CHI; COL's opponent expected to be DET. BOS, of course, will host MTL on Jan. 1 in Winter Classic in Foxboro.

There’s no doubt that an outdoor matchup between the Wild and Blackhawks could be a special event, but according to 1500 ESPN’s Judd Zulgad, it isn’t the game the Wild had been hoping for.
“While the Wild had long-hoped to play host to the Jan. 1 Winter Classic, the NHL is expected to announce this weekend that Minnesota and Colorado will be awarded games that are part of the Stadium series.”
According to McKenzie, the New Year’s Day Winter Classic game will feature Boston and Montreal at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts.
While the NHL hasn’t announced a date or a venue for the Wild’s Stadium Series game, Yahoo Sports reports it will likely be held at Target Field.
