The NFL Draft is exactly three weeks from today and the latest word from Minnesota sports insider Darren Wolfson is that the Vikings still haven’t met one-on-one with LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels.
“They are not done spending time with these quarterbacks. Nothing was set in stone as of yesterday morning,” Wolfson said this week with SKOR North‘s Phil Mackey and Judd Zulgad, “but the idea is to spend more time with Jayden Daniels.
“The idea was after his pro day last week to spend some one-on-one time with him. That never happened. Kevin O’Connell wasn’t in Baton Rouge anyway, but the idea is somewhere here along the way before the draft this month the Vikings will spend time with Jayden Daniels. Whether that’s a top-30 visit or they go to him, to be determined. But I know that’s the idea.”
The Vikings are hosting their top-30 draft visits on Sunday and Monday, per Wolfson.
Daniels participated in LSU’s pro day last week. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that Daniels was expected to meet with the Vikings, Patriots, Commanders, Giants, Broncos and Raiders immediately after his workout.
O’Connell wasn’t there for the pro day and it’s unclear if anyone from the Vikings attended the event. NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe reported that there were six NFL head coaches credentialed for the pro day: Jerod Mayo (Patriots), Dan Quinn (Commanders), Matt Eberflus (Bears), Brian Daboll (Giants), Antonio Pierce (Raiders) and Dennis Allen (Saints).
The Vikings did meet formally with the top quarterback prospects at the NFL Combine, but it’s believed that private workouts are the most beneficial for teams when trying to determine which player they most want to select.
