NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that the Vikings are trading “draft pick compensation” to the New York Jets for tight end Chris Herndon.
The trade for a tight end comes after the team announced Monday that Irv Smith Jr. will miss an undetermined amount of time due to surgery to repair a meniscus injury in his knee.

Herndon played in 16 games last season and finished with 31 receptions for 287 yards three touchdowns. An injury and a four-game suspension kept him mostly off the field in 2019, but he generate big hopes as a rookie in 2018 when he had 39 catches for 502 yards and four touchdowns.
Herndon, still only 25 years old, was the 107th overall pick out of Miami in the 2018 NFL Draft.
It’s unclear what level of draft pick compensation the Vikings parted with in the trade.
