The Vikings have reportedly secured another piece of the 2023 roster by re-signing running back Alexander Mattison, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Another top running back domino to fall: Alexander Mattison agreed to a two-year contract to remain with the #Vikings, per source. The deal is worth $7 million that can get to $8M with $6.35M in guarantees. pic.twitter.com/hqIIKHWtig

Pelissero reports Mattison is returning on a two-year, $7 million deal.
Mattison, 24, has primarily been RB2 in Minnesota behind Dalvin Cook.
The Boise State running back has never run for more than 500 yards in a season as the backup to Cook. Mattison has run the ball a total of 404 times in his four years in the NFL, averaging 4.1 yards per carry.
“This may point to the Vikings moving on from Dalvin Cook,” says Purple Insider’s Matthew Coller. “It’s otherwise difficult to see how they could afford him and Mattison on a limited budget. Mattison has proven to be a quality runner and pass catcher who is a good candidate to pair with the other two young running backs in the Vikings organization.”
