The Minnesota Vikings are closing in on a multi-year contract extension with general manager Rick Spielman per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Spielman has served as the Vikings’ general manager since 2012 and has overseen the transformation for a team that was toward the bottom of the league both offensively and defensively into a perennial contender in the NFC.
The trademark for Spielman has been his knack for finding talent late in the NFL Draft, where he’s turned late-round picks and undrafted free agents into key pieces such as Danielle Hunter, Adam Thielen and Anthony Harris.
Terms for an extension have not been disclosed, but since head coach Mike Zimmer was hired, the two have had their contracts synced in terms of length. Zimmer received a three-year extension from the Vikings last month.
With the front office locked in for the foreseeable future, the Vikings will now turn their attention to extending some of the talent on the roster including Harris and running back Dalvin Cook.
