Now that Terry Ryan has been relieved of his role as general manager of the Minnesota Twins, Rob Antony is serving as interim GM. But the Twins will be hiring a search firm to find Ryan’s replacement.
According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, Alex Anthopoulos and Ben Cherington are two names that should gather consideration for the vacant position. Both held GM positions in the majors a season ago.

Anthopoulos
Anthopoulos is the vice president of baseball operations for the Los Angeles Dodgers and was the former GM of the Toronto Blue Jays. Anthopoulos walked away from Toronto last fall despite helping the team to it’s first post-season appearance in 22 years.
He was offered a long-term contract extension after the season but reportedly left Toronto after a disagreement with ownership on how he ran the team.
Anthopoulos traded away many young players over a two-year stretch to acquire such All Stars as: Josh Donaldson, Troy Tulowitzki and David Price.
Cherington
Cherington was the Red Sox’s GM from 2011-2015 before resigning from the position late in the 2015 season.
He was named Executive of the Year by the Sporting News in 2013 when the Red Sox won the World Series.
After leaving Boston, Cherington stepped away from baseball and accepted a position at Columbia University in the school’s sports management program.
