The Minnesota Twins are in the market for starting pitching as Monday’s trade deadline approaches and according to a report from MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, the Twins are interested in acquiring Dylan Bundy to help bolster their rotation.
Bundy has been a revelation this season as the right-hander has registered a 3-2 record with a 2.58 ERA in 38 1/3 innings with the Los Angeles Angels. Once a top prospect in all of baseball, Bundy’s resurgence has followed years of disappointment where he posted a 38-45 record and 4.67 ERA heading into this season.
However, the 27-year-old appears to be getting his walks under control with a career-low 1.9 walks per nine innings while also posting a career-high 10.3 strikeouts per nine innings.
While the numbers are a small sample size, the Twins are one of several teams interested in Bundy including the Chicago White Sox and Atlanta Braves.
The Twins will be holding their annual search for starting pitching at the trade deadline after placing Jake Odorizzi back on the 10-day injured list and moving Homer Bailey, who hasn’t pitched since July 28, to the 45-day injured list last week.
Another popular target for the Twins could be Trevor Bauer, but as of Saturday, both Heyman and KSTP-TV’s Darren Wolfson reported the Reds had no interest in trading their ace despite falling out of contention in the NL Central.
With the White Sox and Indians leaping ahead of the Twins in the AL Central standings, the Twins figure to be buyers, but it will be interesting to see if something develops in a unique season.
