Hernandez, 30, is having a down season with the Mariners despite hitting 16 homers. He’s slashing .238/.288/.406 (.694 OPS) with 16 home runs, 17 doubles and 59 RBI. If he had those numbers on the Twins, he would be tied with Byron Buxton and Joey Gallo for the team lead in homers and he’d lead the team in RBI.
He also leads the majors with 143 strikeouts and his 32.1% strikeout rate is actually higher than Buxton, who is striking out in 31.2% of his at-bats.
France, 29, can play first base, second base and third base and is hitting .250/.321/.364 (.685 OPS) with seven homers and 39 RBI. His 24 doubles are one more than Twins’ doubles leader Carlos Correa (23).
The MLB trade deadline hits at 5 p.m. CT today.
