The ground is shaking a bit around Target Field with the rough beginning to the season for the Twins, but general manager Terry Ryan and manager Paul Molitor still have the full support of Twins owner Jim Pohlad.
When asked by the Star Tribune’s Chip Scoggins if both are safe, Pohlad responded, “absolutely.”
Pohlad called the 8-20 record the result of a “total system failure” and he wants to see individual players step up and start leading the team to victories.
Twins Daily has an extensive breakdown about why firing a GM or manager midseason makes little sense: “It’s a show of force, but if it doesn’t translate to more wins on the field, it can hardly be considered worth doing.”
The Pioneer Press reported Thursday that the Twins have waived pitchers Tommy Milone and Casey Fien, and that additional roster moves could be looming.
The schedule isn’t about to get any easier, either. Minnesota doesn’t face another team with a losing record until they play Oakland on May 30. Between now and then they play:
