Minnesota sports fans are thankful on this Thanksgiving week for a renewed opportunity the Twins have to bring in a big-time player.
On Tuesday, MLB Network’s Jon Morosi reported that the Twins and Diamondbacks have had preliminary talks about a trade that would send six-time All-Star first baseman Paul Goldschmidt to Minnesota.

Morosi notes that the talks haven’t advanced, and The Athletic’s Dan Hayes adds that the trade discussion isn’t expected to lead to anything.

With Joe Mauer now retired, the Twins have an opening at first base. Goldschmidt, who has one year left on his contract, would be an incredible upgrade. The 31-year-old hit .290 and slugged .533 with 33 homers and 83 RBI for the Diamondbacks last season.
Goldschmidt is also a three-time Gold Glove winner and has finished in the top six for MVP voting four times in the last six seasons.
The price the Twins would have to pay to get Goldschmidt is undoubtedly very steep, and risky since the veteran is eligible to test free agency after the 2019 season.
