When the Dodgers traded top pitching prospect Jose De Leon to the Tampa Bay Rays, the door was basically closed for a potential trade for Twins second baseman Brian Dozier.
De Leon was traded straight up for another power-hitting second baseman, Logan Forsythe. According to Jon Morsi of MLB Network, the Twins’ asking price ended up being too high.
Morsi says the Twins also wanted Willie Calhoun, who belted 27 home runs at Double-A, and Yadier Alvarez, a right-handed pitcher who struck out 81 batters in 59.3 innings last season.
Calhoun and Alvarez are the Dodgers’ third- and- fourth-best prospects.
Although the Twins’ asking price ended up being too high, it’s not far fetched. Dozier hit 42 home runs last season and has arguably become the face of the franchise, not to mention his contract is as team-friendly as they come.
With the Twins having one of the league’s worst rotations last season, it would make sense to ask for a lot.
