Melo Tirmble, who was a standout at the University of Maryland for the past three seasons, agreed to a partially guaranteed deal with the Timberwolves on Tuesday, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Trimble was projected to be a late first-round pick, but he was passed up and ended up on the Philadelphia 76ers’ summer league roster before being released.
In his three seasons at the University of Maryland, Trimble led the Terps in scoring each year.
He averaged 16.8 points on 43 percent shooting in the 2016-17 season. The guard helped Maryland to three straight NCAA tournaments for the first time in more than a decade.
The 22-year-old loves to have the ball in his hands for big moments. For diehard college basketball fans, you’ll remember his game-winning shots against Michigan State and Wisconsin.
Unless he makes a good impression in the preseason, it’s unlikely Trimble will crack the Wovles’ NBA roster.
However Minnesota’s roster lacks shooters with Zach LaVine being traded and Shabazz Muhammad a free agent.
