The Minnesota Twins got some good news on Brian Dozier’s sore hip.
According to the Pioneer Press, a person with direct knowledge says Dozier will not need surgery because an MRI exam showed no structural damage.
Twins general manager Terry Ryan revealed last week that Dozier would undergo the test to “make sure everything was in order” with his hip.
Dozier slumped down the stretch, hitting just .197 with a .270 on-base percentage and a .565 OPS in his final 30 games after Sept. 1.
He slowed in the second half of the season after finishing the first half on a tear that got him into the All-Star Game.
Fangraphs.com notes that Dozier still managed to lead the Twins with 3.4 Wins Above Replacement and still ranked fifth among all qualifying second basemen in the American League.
His first half of the season won’t soon be forgotten. One of those moments is actually up for the Best Offensive Play Award from Major League Baseball.

The Twins trailed 6-1 heading into the ninth inning on July 10. After the Twins cut it to 6-5, and had a pair of runners on base, Dozier ended the game with the blast, completing the biggest ninth-inning comeback in the league this season.
