The Wild’s leading point getter from a season ago is currently on crutches.
According to Michael Russo of the Star Tribune, Mikael Granlund rolled his ankle while on a run in his native country of Finland.
He’s expected to out for the next two weeks while recovering. The Wild told GoMN they could not comment on the injury report.
Granlund should be healthy when the Wild open training camp next month. The team’s first preseason game is set for Sept. 18 in Winnipeg against the Jets.
The 25-year-old just signed a three-year contract worth over $17 million this month.
After playing predominantly center for the majority of his career, Granlund moved to left wing last season and thrived there under head coach Bruce Boudreau, putting up 69 points (26 goals, 43 points) in 81 games.
Cullen gets his number back
Newly signed Matt Cullen will be able to wear No. 7 next season. The jersey had been occupied by forward Chris Stewart, who switched to No. 10.
Cullen wore No. 7 during his first stint with the Wild from 2010-13 and donned the same number during his time in Pittsburgh, Nashville and Ottawa.
