Veteran defensive back and return specialist Marcus Sherels is signing a one-year deal the New Orleans Saints, according to multiple reports.
Sherels has never played organized football outside of Minnesota, having grown up in Rochester, starred for the Gophers and blossomed into a versatile player as an undrafted free agent for the Vikings.
Sherels has averaged 25.5 yards per kickoff return and 10.5 yards per punt return in his career, including five punt returns for touchdowns in his nine-year career.
Minnesota’s depth at defensive back still includes Xavier Rhodes, Trae Waynes, Mackensie Alexander, Mike Hughes and Holton Hill.
I’m sad. Reports are Marcus Sherels leaving the #Vikings for NOLA. In my 17 years calling games for this team he absolutely is one of the most real, kindest, honest, hard-working, classiest people I have known. I love Marcus Sherels and will miss him. #MainManMarcus pic.twitter.com/wLWQreER5p
